Privacy Policy
- Forest Companion does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
- Most app data (such as onboarding completion, language choice, and certain in-app status) is stored locally on your device.
- The app displays rewarded ads using Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Google and its partners may collect certain device and usage information to deliver and measure ads.
1) Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how the developer of Forest Companion (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the Forest Companion mobile application (the “App”).
2) Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide to us
The App does not include account registration or in-app forms that request personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, address, or contacts.
2.2 Information stored locally on your device
The App stores certain settings and in-app status locally on your device to provide core functionality. This data is not intended to identify you and is not uploaded to our servers because the App does not operate its own backend service.
- Onboarding status (e.g., whether you completed the introduction).
- Language preference.
- Optional “screen saver / lock screen display” setting.
- In-app progression/state such as which companion(s) are marked as “gone” and related UI state.
2.3 Advertising information (Google Mobile Ads / AdMob)
The App uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to load and show rewarded advertisements (for example, when you choose to revive a companion by watching an ad). When ads are shown, Google and its partners may automatically collect and process certain information in order to provide, personalize (where permitted), measure, and protect advertising services.
- Device identifiers (such as the Advertising ID, and other identifiers depending on your device settings and Google policies).
- IP address and coarse location inferred from IP (commonly used for basic ad delivery and fraud prevention).
- App interactions related to ads (e.g., ad impressions, clicks, reward events, and diagnostics).
- Device and app information (e.g., OS version, app version, language, network type).
We do not receive your Advertising ID directly from you inside the App UI, but the advertising SDK may use it (or other signals) as governed by Google’s policies and your device settings.
Learn more about how Google uses information from apps that use its services: Google Privacy Policy.
3) How we use information
- Provide core features: keep your settings (language, onboarding completion, optional lock-screen display toggle) and certain in-app state on your device.
- Operate rewarded ads: load and display rewarded ads and grant in-app rewards after an ad is successfully completed (handled through AdMob callbacks).
- Security and integrity: advertising partners may use signals to prevent fraud and abuse and to ensure ads are delivered correctly.
4) Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. The main case where information may be shared/processed by a third party is advertising:
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): used to serve rewarded ads. Google may process device and usage information as described above.
5) Permissions and device features
The App uses certain Android system capabilities primarily to support an optional lock-screen / screen-saver-style display during a focus session. These capabilities are used for functionality, not to collect personal data.
- Wake lock: to keep the screen on or wake the device when the lock-screen display is active.
- Lock screen display controls: to show the companion display when the screen is locked and allow exiting by tapping.
- Screen on/off events: to start or stop the lock-screen display behavior during an active session (when enabled).
The App does not request access to sensitive sensors such as your precise location, camera, microphone, contacts, call logs, or SMS.
6) Data retention
- Local data: stored on your device until you clear the App’s storage or uninstall the App.
- Ad data: retained and processed by Google according to Google’s policies.
7) Your choices and controls
- Delete local app data: you can clear the App’s storage in Android settings or uninstall the App.
- Ad personalization: you can control ad personalization and reset/limit your advertising identifier through your device settings and Google settings (availability varies by Android version and region).
- Opting out of ads: the App currently uses rewarded ads to unlock certain actions (e.g., reviving a companion). If you choose not to watch ads, you can still use other parts of the App that do not require rewarded ads.
8) International transfers
Because the App uses Google Mobile Ads, information processed by Google may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, according to Google’s infrastructure and policies.
9) Children’s privacy
The App is not designed to collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10) Security
We strive to use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the App’s design. Most settings and in-app state are stored locally on your device. However, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
11) Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Effective date” above when changes are made. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
